Lapel Pins make Headlines at the Oscars 2012

04-24-12

When walking the red carpet at the Oscars don’t forget to wear your custom lapel pin from Pincrafters. Tom Hanks and Christopher Plummer made headlines in the Los Angeles Times as the best-dressed men at the Oscars this year with their custom lapel pins. Christopher Plummer wore a whimsical flower-petal lapel pin while Tom Hanks wore a number six lapel pin. The “6″ was worn in respect to the military. The six is in reference to “6 o’clock” as the location of an enemy plane behind you and was worn in support of the veterans “got your six o’clock” campaign. Remember Pincrafters for your next custom lapel pin project.

Miss Scarlet did it in the Kitchen with a Lapel Pin

On a recent episode of CSI Miami the only thing connecting the suspect to the crime scene was a lapel pin. Uncovering the skeletal remains deep in the sand revealed little evidence for the CSI team. Lucky for them they found a yachting club lapel pin. That lapel membership pin put the suspect at the crime scene and the case was solved.

Many organizations use lapel pins to honor and recognize their members and volunteers. The American Legion honors longevity of members with 50 year pins and 55 year pins. Many organizations, including Health Care, Humane Society chapters, and Wildlife Conservatories honor their volunteers with dinners and gifts of recognition including lapel pins. Some organizations choose pins with precious metals and gems to demonstrate various years of service. At Pincrafters we also design pins which look forward to years of continued service. We design pins that include a dangler, and space to add additional danglers in the future, demonstrating continued years or milestones of service.

Pawn Shop Prize Lapel Pin on History Channel

12-28-11

Lapel pins recently made television history … or rather we were reminded of some lapel pin history on the popular History Channel show “Pawn Stars”. A customer, and former Olympic athlete, had brought in a pre-event screening pin he was given during the summer games. We learned from Rick that some of the earliest Olympic pin badges, made in the 1930′s and worn by the athletes, were actually made of cardboard and embellished with metal foil.

The humble beginnings of the cardboard pin badges soon led to high quality hard enamel & soft enamel pins and Olympic Pin Trading quickly became an international pastime.

Pincrafters have been proud to be involved in Olympic pin production for the Cayman Islands Youth Olympic Team and many other Olympic projects.

This tradition has carried on through many major league athletic teams, youth league athletic teams, political candidates, and various clubs and organizations.
